Delicious Jowar (Sorghum) Upma Recipe: A Wholesome Sattvic Delight

Ingredients:

  1. 3/4 cup boiled jowar (sorghum)

  2. 1 tbs oil/ghee

  3. 1 tsp cumin seeds

  4. 3 green chilies finely chopped (ajdust to taste)

  5. 1 small potato diced

  6. roasted peanut powder

  7. corriander for garnishing

  8. lemon

  9. salt to taste

  10. 1/2tsp sugar (optional)

Method:


To prepare jowar: Soak 3/4 cup jowar for 6 to 8 hours and wash it thoroughly. Add 3 cups water and salt and pressure cook it in medium flame for 4 to 5 whistles. Strain the excess water and use.

  1. Heat oil in a pan or kadai over medium heat.

  2. Add cumin seeds and allow them to splutter.

  3. Add the finely chopped green chilies and sauté for a minute.

  4. Add the diced potato and cook until it turns golden brown and tender.

  5. Now, add the boiled jowar to the pan and mix well with the other ingredients.

  6. Stir in the roasted peanut powder and mix until well combined.

  7. Add salt to taste and mix again.

  8. If desired, add sugar to balance the flavors (optional).

  9. Cook for a few more minutes, stirring occasionally, until all the ingredients are well incorporated and heated through.

  10. Turn off the heat and squeeze some fresh lemon juice over the upma for a tangy kick (adjust according to your taste preference).

  11. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

  12. Serve hot and enjoy the delicious Jowar Upma with a side of yogurt or chutney.

Note: You can customize the recipe by adding other vegetables like carrots, peas, or beans. Simply sauté them along with the potato in step 4 before adding the boiled jowar.
